Mistresses: Season 1 (2013)

Critic Consensus: Mistresses offers fleeting moments of trashy fun, but it's mostly a soapy melodrama that's lacking a strong narrative pull.

Critic Reviews for Mistresses Season 1

All Critics (20) | Top Critics (10)

Do you think what TV really needs is more cheesy, sleazy melodrama with lots of soft-core sex scenes? Then welcome Mistresses.

Mistresses is a fair bit better than a sack of s. Sometimes it even gives off a pleasant Desperate Housewives fragrance.

Mistresses is the kind of heated-up summertime soap opera that could become a popular guilty pleasure.

This mopey melodrama about four women wrestling with infidelities in their relationships should have stayed on the shelf.

Mistresses is the perfect ride for a long, hot summer.

Is it smart? No. But then, who wants to think too much about a show focused on screwing around? Relax, pour a drink, and be glad you're not paying to watch.

Jun 4, 2013 | Full Review…

A cliched, surface-level soap opera more reminiscent of a Lifetime mini-series than what used to qualify for network TV.

Too narratively banal to be memorable and not nearly sexy enough to make up for its narrative shortcomings.

It's not very good. It is, however, the kind of not very good one might at least consider watching during summer, the season when trashy content is at its most appealing and the competition at its least thick.

Think of it as a trashy summer beach read without the beach and with sound and moving pictures, and you have the idea.
