Season 1
Moonbase 8
Despite a talent central trio and a few great moments, Moonbase 8's portrait of monotonous mediocrity may be too low-key for some viewers to achieve comedic lift off - though that may be exactly the point.

What the series' comedy is not, terribly often, is funny. Oh, it's specific. It's considered. It's very much hitting the precise target it's aiming for. And maybe that's enough. It wasn't for me, but it may very well be, for you.
[It] isn't trying to reinvent the wheel. It's oddly well-suited, production-wise, to knock out episodes under the industry's costly pandemic safety regulations... but the series plays to its creators' strengths while relying heavily on their chemistry.
A season of warm-up is a lot to ask of viewers, many of whom will find their attention drifting into space long before the Moonbase 8 men ever will.
A tight, quirky comedy that has more laughs in its blessedly brief three-hour total running time for this six-episode season than most comedy films released this year.
No wonder the National Astronauts Whatever thinks it's high time to stage an intervention.
I'd love to see the series come back, if only to keep Reilly, Heidecker, and Armisen onscreen together. Their chemistry is one of Moonbase 8's greatest appeals
Unearthing nothing but frown inducing silliness in their isolated earthbound wilderness, you'll thank the heavens this series only lasts a mere 6 episodes
In all, "Moonbase 8" is comforting, but disposable entertainment. While the finale surprisingly teases a larger world beyond the desert, the first season is an uncomplicated hang-out.
Moonshot is painfully, unbearably unfunny.
Humour at its most subdued being delivered with the precision of a surgeon general.
What makes the show work is how earnest the three characters are about their dreams, jobs, and moral failings.
This show may not leave Earth, but it's a pleasant and welcome escape.
Audience Reviews for Moonbase 8: Season 1
-
Dec 30, 2020SO FUNNY and clever and just an enjoyable watch altogether. loved it !
-
Dec 11, 2020I liked it, it's hilarious and the acting is well-done!
-
Dec 07, 2020Moonbase 8 is a Showtime original series with Fred Armisen, Tim Heidecker, and John C. Reilly who are in training somewhere in Arizona to create a base on the moon. Other astronauts come and go while these three goof balls are rolling around the base expecting they will eventually end up on the moon. The storyline was dull, pointless and not worth your time. With these three great actors you would expect something better, something that says we are trying to achieve their goal. Skip this series just not worth the time or energy to watch it.
-
Nov 29, 2020Comedically, this show is on the drier side, but still works well with the combined efforts of the Reilly, Heidecker, & Armisen.
-
Nov 28, 2020It shows what motivates people to go to space today, the newer approach of SpaceX team and maybe the more old-fashioned but earnest NASA one. All in all, it works as a comedy around quite serious aspirations.
-
Nov 28, 2020You know those scenes in shows or movies you can go to the fridge or something caz nothing of significance is happening... that's this whole show.
-
Nov 27, 2020Tiene su gracia y le tenía mucha fe por Reilly y Armisen, pero es muy floja, la idea es muy buena pero los personajes no convencen, el guion es muy debilucho.
-
Nov 27, 2020I'm really enjoying this style of parody. It's funny in a very subtle way. It's a refreshing change to watching loud comedy. The characters are likeable. For those commenting that it is about nothing .... exactly. It's funny situational.
-
Nov 17, 2020Armisen face ceva neamuzant
-
Nov 17, 2020A major letdown. Fred Armisen is such a talented actor, but this show scrapes the bottom of the barrel for unfunny jokes.
