I think I see a façade. 'Ordeal by Innocence' by Agatha Christie. The guilty person(s) is(are) in that room, is the gist of the novel.

Almost entirely pointless. This show should stay on the shelf until the case is solved.

Murder on Middle Beach is a fascinating true crime story that manages to have a fresh voice in a vast sea of similar offerings. It helps that the crime in question is deeply compelling, with many possible leads and it's all kept grounded by the narrator, who is also the son of the victim.

An excellent investigation-turned-love letter from a son to his murdered mother, reminiscent of heartbreaking must-see, Dear Zachary. A number of twists and revelations makes this a very interesting watch.

Decent documentary. A little too much speculation for me. I found myself wanting more concrete evidence and there wasn't much. Otherwise, it was well done. I hope the son gets some closure.

Madison had an hard job in here, and that must be valued. He documented all the aspects related with the death of his mother, all people (including family) involved and some old footage of his childhood. It has touching, revolting and warming moments. There is a lot of rewarding crafty work and courage behind this top-notch documentary. By itself, the documentary is already extremely pertinent and cleverly intriguing, but it deserves an extra-point for all the courage of making it so well and being in the most difficult position at the same time.

One of the best docuseries I have ever seen

      • Jun 21, 2021

Considering that this is Madison Hamburg's first-ever documentary and that his own mother and family are the subject of the docuseries, I was surprised at how excellent this was. I was skeptical at first that being so close to the story in question, Hamburg would not have the objectivity needed to investigate all angles and expose often ugly truths about his own family. Or indeed, that he would have already made his mind up as to who murdered his mother and would have a singular vision in bringing that person down. Instead, Hamburg was able to craft a story that was thoroughly compelling for viewers while maintaining what appeared at all times to be sincere compassion and empathy as a family member. To me, the greatest success of this documentary is that while I started watching it for the reason that I suspect we all watch true crime documentaries - for the thrill of trying to solve the mystery myself from my living room - I continued watching it because Hamburg was so earnest in his desire to discover his mother as a person, and never lost sight of that as the ultimate goal of this project. No doubt it is precisely *because* he is the son of the central figure in the documentary that he is able to avoid the exploitation and de-humanization that so often mar true crime documentaries, where the gory details and detective work overshadow the humanity of the person whose life was lost, and the trauma, loss, and humanity of all those who loved that person. The final scene in which he cuts to a clip from an old home movie of himself as a toddler with his mother was incredibly touching, and a rightful ending reminding viewers that the person at the centre of this tragedy was indeed a person.

As soon as you decide "who must of done it?" the story unfolds with additional plausible suspects as family secrets are exposed. Very interesting and compelling to watch.

So many twists and turns. This documentary was extremely well done and I appreciate how much went into this series. Awesome job to Madison and his team!
