The writing is almost effortlessly funny yet self-aware enough to strike a good balance between humor and ridiculousness. The protagonist is awkward but by the end of the first season, one can’t help but root for him. There’s enough action and romance to keep those who are seeking katana duels and the drama that always accompanies any tale of love. The premise is silly, but combined with some decent pacing and solid, if theatrical, performances My Undead Yokai Girlfriend is a binge-worthy watch.
