Season 1
Our Cartoon President

Critics Consensus

Sugar-coated satire, Our Cartoon President wavers between scathing social criticism and softball slings in a way that's as unsatisfying as it is uncomfortable.

Tv Season Info

This animated series offers a satirical look at life in the White House and explores the President's relationships with his family, his staff, politicians, and members of the media. Season 1 of the comedy show is inspired by real-life events such as Donald Trump's State of the Union and his refusal to attend the White House Correspondents' Dinner, but it also imagines absurd situations such as his opening monologue to the Academy Awards and an extravagant marriage renewal ceremony.

The first two episodes hit some comedic sweet spots, both visually and verbally.

The cartoon Trump is just silly; he's not a bad guy so much as an empathetic buffoon.

... tries maybe too hard to do too much.

No matter how much you might despise Trump, this really feels like it's preaching to the converted without any imagination whatsoever.

There is not one ounce of ambiguity in Our Cartoon President.

Silly presidential satire has mature language, decent jokes.

There's potential in Our Cartoon President.

I suggest you avoid the less than bush-league Our Cartoon President.

Feb 12, 2018 | Full Review…

This cartoon show is worth sampling, but it's yet to find its footing.

Feb 12, 2018 | Full Review…

The show quickly figured out the difference between vicious and vital satire, with especially good sendups of Cabinet members (many of whom are still serving!), the Fox News echo chamber and the MSNBC mortification machine.

Jun 14, 2018 | Full Review…

Unless the series quickly develops real teeth it will do Trump & Co an unintended service by giving them a folksy makeover that lets them slide on pretty much everything. That would be ... well ... sad.

Mar 28, 2018 | Full Review…

If you're going to enter this hall of mirrors, you'd better have a distinct, original idea about your subject. "Our Cartoon President," an animated sitcom, seems to have none besides being a cartoon about the president.

Awesome show! I don't think the reviews are accurate. I think rotten tomatoes must be owned by Republicans! I can understand why a Republican would hate this show but it's really funny and scary l shockingly accurate.

This show is FUNNY! The cartoonists capture the individuals expressions so well. And that ending theme song is sung with such talent and conviction, it reminds me how scary it is to have Trump as our president while still making me laugh. So glad for this show because it reminds me that there are other people out there and gives me relief that I am not alone in my despair and desire to have a reasonable person as a president.

I hate Trump, I love parody & sarcastic cartoons, I *should* love this show. But, sorry, it SUCKS. BAD writing, bad jokes, not funny. Not worth watching.
  • Nov 29, 2018
Hilarious. The way they've characterized each person in the trump cabinet and congress is genius. Only reason people give this any bad rating is because they have a big MAGA boner for Trump and are butt hurt

I really wanted to enjoy this. After sitting through the first 18 episodes, its a well intentioned series with lots of potential. However as of now( S1E18), it has been a poorly executed, joyless cash grab; leaving a lot to desired. I would love to see this show succeed and less cheap partisan jokes!

Great Trump impersonator and a handful of funny jokes in a sea of languid boredom do not make for a funny TV show. What ever OPPORTUNITIES this has for MAKING funny comedy, fun character driven drama or even POIGNANT commentary, it abandons all for the sake of either mocking Trump or just pointing at him and laughing. There is little to enjoy here even for the most devout Colbert fan, and I was one, until he stopped being funny

If you think of it in terms of, it is addressed to the President. It is directed at him and him alone to watch and consider. Perhaps this is what the nation really thinks of you. I doubt Trump has watched it or sat through a minute of it. It's not exactly funny all the time, although there are jokes being made. I think it is important that this is part of the national conversation around Donald Trump even if it is a mediocre show. The show's saving grace is actually the caricatures of the media, Rachel Maddow and Anderson Cooper, and also Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer as a couple of kooky Democratic rivals, many of the most humourous scenes are in these characters.

I love it, portrays him and his family so well.
  • Aug 26, 2018
Solid satire. It pokes fun at the whole establishment as well as the trump administration. Very funny.

This is something meant to be uncomfortable, because the entire situation it is based on is uncomfortable, and this show reminds us why.
