What to Know

Critics Consensus

Familiarity with League of Legends will definitely help viewers connect better with Players' satirical jabs, but this e-sports comedy reaffirms Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda's knack for spoofing documentary conventions with amusing results.

A
A hysterical and moving character study that's also a snapshot of an entire culture, filmed with the death-or-glory excitement of a one-last-shot sports movie. Go to Full Review

Calling Players a “mockumentary” might be technically accurate, but feels spiritually wrong. That might make it less laugh-out-loud funny, but it also makes it more complex. Go to Full Review

Even though Players is a foreign setting to me, it is also a fun and poignant portrait of some specific types of guys. Go to Full Review

There is a specificity to the show's portrayal of e-sports that makes it a gift to those familiar with that scene, but also a bit daunting to those who are not. Go to Full Review

Even though Players might have been created for a very specific audience, those who are familiar with League of Legends in nearly any capacity should get a kick out of Perrault and Yacenda's latest project. Go to Full Review

D k 12/28/2022 Loved it. I knew nothing about League of Legends going in except the tiny bits about some characters gleaned from watching Arcane, but I loved it. As a fan of American Vandal I knew I'd watch whatever those guys made next and this show absolutely scratches the same itch. I don't like real documentaries but I love these scripted ones, go figure, idk, it's great TV See more Mohlakala M 12/12/2022 Absolutely surprised me about how good it was.
