It's settled into its own odd niche, it's no longer the freshest item on the menu, but Rick And Morty's still got it.

It has entered a dangerous cycle of having to prove something to the series' most toxic fans. [Full Review in Spanish]

Still, it doesn't make the whole episode satisfying, because it just seems like a series of moments that are trying to make fun of the potential of the show, but also state that the potential isn't infinite.

All of that said, it's undeniably refreshing for a television comedy to have such a confident and consistent point of view -- and especially one that's so unapologetically dispiriting.

Rick and Morty still gets to be whatever the hell it wants to be, and this premiere celebrates that. We should too.

What "Edge of Tomorty: Rick Die Rickpeat" does is showcase Rick and Morty at the top of its game: This is an episode made by [Justin] Roiland and [Dan] Harmon at their most confident and assured.

Season four of Rick and Morty can, so far, be best summarised with the (truly complimentary in this rare instance) phrase "more of the same."

It's a bleak beginning to the season, and really, if you're looking for a sign of how Rick and Morty has changed in the last two years, there is the brutal reality that fascism has become "the default" for most of the multiverse.

Rick and Morty is at its best when it's juggling all its visual component parts, teetering on the edge of a fatal overload just like its central pair.

The episode's cold open smashes the reset button with remarkable efficacy.

The season 4 premiere is as smart and funny as anything the show has done before, and it paves the way for a confident future - even if it's just basically more of the same.

As a meta-statement, it's certainly a bold opening to the season. And considering how much the premiere squeezed into its 20 minute runtime, I can't wait to see how things pan out. Rick and Morty's back, and it's different, kind of.

[It] is not just a "classic Rick and Morty adventure" with a twist, but also a funny commentary on the pressure felt by the show's creators to appeal to their rabid fan base while also having the freedom to venture into new and exciting creative territory

Rick and Morty is ultimately an optimistic, hopeful series, however, precisely the kind of medicine the audience needs.

"Rick and Morty" remains smart, ridiculous and singular. What started as a raunchy parody of "Back to the Future" on LSD has morphed into a show that can and will do absolutely anything in the name of comedy.

It's good storytelling, good comedy, and, yes, good TV.

It's still one of the best-written and most entertaining shows on television, one that remains incredibly smart, funny, and insightful. And it might be all of those things because how long they take to make it.
