Let us say that the oft-times convoluted plot and the occasional absurdity are worth enduring for the personalities -- Morse, Thursday and the wonderfully dry police pathologist, Dr. Max DeBryn (James Bradshaw). Go to Full Review

This series of feature-length mysteries would be better if it wasn’t stiffly designed to showcase the musical abilities of Line of Duty star Adrian Dunbar. Go to Full Review

Will Ridley be finishing with a song every week?... As decent a crooner as Dunbar is, it’s becoming a bit tiresome. Go to Full Review

Everything about this drama was by the numbers, from the tragedy-tinged central character to the angry police chief giving the hairdryer treatment to underlings. Go to Full Review

The jazz-loving detective must be one of the biggest clichés in crime fiction. It’s almost admirable that the makers of Ridley weren’t afraid to go there. Go to Full Review

DJ S Sep 25 This long-form police drama is beautifully shot and complimented by a melancholic jazz soundtrack that echoes the main character's tragic backstory. Adrian Dunbar delivers a great performance, as always and although the first season takes its time to unfold, the seemingly disconnected storylines pay off in the finale. See more Ian O Aug 26 Come on guys it’s very entertaining and gives people a chance to work out the clues before Ridley susses it out As for his singing at the end (which nearly all you professional critics are complaining about instead of the programmes acting/storylines) the guy is good so give it a break and let people enjoy being a DI for a day There is a lot worse on the tv Silent Witness for one 😃👍 See more Jen S 10/07/2024 It’s almost good- but it if they don’t lay off the Dunbar overload I’m out. Someone needs to tell him he CAN’T SING- I mean, it’s truly awful🤢 Also, Why the overindulgence on overextended shots of his brooding self. Please recognize the audience isn’t here to look at Dunbar or listen to Dunbar do bad karaoke. We are here for a good detective drama. Let’s get on with that. See more Judith F 09/26/2024 Please tell Dunbar that he cannot sing; save it for the shower. The lesbian relationship really turned me off because it had no significance to the story line. In other words, I don't care. What bothered me most was that I figured out who the "bad guy" was before he did in most episodes. Disappointing. Maybe season 2 will be better. I'll try... See more Anel Y 09/13/2024 The show has it's shortfalls and aspects of detective work and precinct accessibility that do not ring true, but it is entertaining with twists & turns, serious and lightheartedness blended with sentimental moments. See more Susan J @CallMeLulu 07/17/2023 Consummate ham actor. Mugging for cameras. Extended shots--him posing "meaningfully." I suspected the actor must be a producer--yup, he is. SINGING? Drags. Convoluted. Much blah-blah-blahing. Requisite female-female married cop couple adds nothing to plot or mysteries. At best, passes the time while paying bills and doing chores.
