Six Feet Under: Season 2 (2002)

Critic Consensus: Six Feet Under's deliberately paced second season is less endearing than the first, but the engaging ensemble remain reason enough to watch.

Critic Reviews for Six Feet Under Season 2

The characters have become so real, and the twists so involving, that three times while watching these episodes I gasped in shock and disbelief.

Despite its walking dream-corpses, Six Feet Under is not only not creepy-it's not even mildly challenging.

The second season of Six Feet Under hardly hits the ground running. Its first four episodes slowly but surely proceed at a pace not unlike a funeral procession.

Romantic and dramatic dynamics interweave into the complex, nuanced web of social relationships. Even the most minor characters are fleshed out into recognizable personalities.

Six Feet Under's second season [is] meandering, as characters continue to try and figure out where their lives should take them next.

I love Six Feet Under 's love of detail, but I fear I can no longer entirely trust them. Or perhaps it's just the difference between the British and American way of death.

... the second season eliminates the chaff (like the garish and out-of-place mortuary commercials that clogged last season's shows) and provides, quite simply, one of the best works of drama on television.

... it's clear that the series has left Waugh for Samuel Beckett. After which, amazing television, it could go absolutely anywhere.

If anything, the second season feels even more intense than the first.

You've got to love David's impression of Nikolai's'"Lord, have mercy' moment.

Audience Reviews for Six Feet Under: Season 2

In season 2, David deals with Keith's troublesome family; Nate deals with his tumour; Brenda goes on a sexual adventure; Ruth deals with her relationship with Nikolai; Claire tries to control her emotions and Federico tries to make peace between religion and sexuality. It was still interesting, but less fun compared to season 1.
