Pike is the Starship captain Trekkies have been missing, and Strange New Worlds is a welcome return to the Star Trek they know and love. Go to Full Review

Comfort blanket Trek with a great cast, snappy writing and plenty of strands to unwind in future episodes, Strange New Worlds achieves everything it intends. But there’s a lingering feeling that there’s perhaps not quite enough that’s strange or new. Go to Full Review

Much of what the series offers can’t help but come off as clever franchise strategizing. Go to Full Review

Alas, the dialogue was stilted for the most part and the adventures too perfunctory. Go to Full Review

Unlike its contemporaries, the all-new adventures of the Enterprise (still the greatest starship ever) actually felt like Star Trek: a fun, if derivative, cousin to The Original Series. Go to Full Review

Byron R. @Risico007 Jan 20 Star Trek to the core and a worthy prequel to the original. Anson Mount defines Pike in a way no other iteration can, because he IS Pike now. Memento Mori is a masterpiece and one of the all-time best Trek episodes. See more Simon R Oct 25 Pike and the Chief Engineer are good characters, but the rest are pretty limp to be honest. Uhura is wimpy. No.1 is a model who struggles with acting, Spock is surprisingly dull and you can't understand what the Doctor says have the time. My only whinge is the character of Kirk. Why oh why did they cast the lovely Paul Wesley as James T, Kirk? I mean no. Just no. Surely in this world of AI they could have come up with a Chris Pine alike? Better still, ask Chris Pine to cameo or his consent to use a younger version of himself. I'm sorry to say but Kirk's character in this series absolutely ruined it for me. The character was a dweeby, skinny, not so hot person with zero charisma or va va voom and Kirk is reknowned for these. I was pausing and doing other stuff with episodes of Kirk in them for this reason which, I've never done before. I'm so bewildered by the casting for Kirk that I've had to write this review, something I never do. Please God let there be a new Star Trek film soon with Chris Pine so I can get over it...FYI, I watched the original series in the sixties and seventies as a kid so I've a right to whinge right?
