      Critics Consensus

The honeymoon is over for Jessie and Tom's courtship as well as Starstruck's euphoric thrill, but Rose Matafeo's comedy still charms with observations about the ordinary challenges of sustaining extraordinary love.

Yoshi G It is very entertaining but Jessie is very hard for me to watch. Actress is great but her character is so incredibly selfish and it literally pains me and I'm always just feeling sorry for Tom. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/24/23 Full Review Tom M I was pleasantly surprised with this series. Entertaining and interesting. A good production. A quick watch with the short episodes and only 6 episodes per season. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Kate Well thought out and humbly written. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/14/22 Full Review ma'ark t Starstruck Season 2 was funny and an easy rom-com to watch. Don't get me wrong it was very enjoyable but just not quite as good as Season 1. Interested to see what happens next season. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Not as good as the first season, but still very funny and endearing! Judy Berman TIME Magazine Starstruck, with its high-wire setup and flair for flirtatious banter, feels much more like an updated take on the 1930s screwball comedy. Feb 13, 2023 Full Review Linda Holmes NPR Jessie, who is played by the show creator, Rose Matafeo, is a kind of rom-com heroine we just don't see nearly enough. Apr 15, 2022 Full Review Kimber Myers The Playlist The second season is nearly as strong as the just-about-perfect first go-round, offering a half-dozen more bingeable episodes (though lacking a moment as instantly iconic as Jessies post-hook-up dance to "Return of the Mack"). Rated: A- Apr 14, 2022 Full Review Michael Frank Paste Magazine Nothing is forced in Starstruck; instead, Matafeo, her friends, and boyfriends (both new and old) bring levity to dating, bringing a smile to any audience member’s face, including mine. Rated: B+ Aug 16, 2022 Full Review Sarah Ward Concrete Playground Matafeo is still a multi-layered marvel as Jessie, especially as the series wades through more of her tumultuous choices. Jun 25, 2022 Full Review Jodi Walker The Ringer As the movie theaters continue to side-eye the rom-com, HBO Max’s ‘Starstruck’ is proof that the small screen could be the perfect home for the beloved genre.
