News & Interviews for Ted Lasso: Season 1
Ted Lasso is breezy and fun and full of heart, but its easy escapisms are also uneasy ones. They are mordant, but they are mournful too.
You can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs and as Jason Sudeikis' Ted Lasso rounds into its final two episodes, doubters such as myself end up with more and more yolk on their face.
On Ted Lasso, American innocence, humility, and heroism are all alive and well-and you don't have to consciously notice any of that for it to bring you comfort.
Ted Lasso is a pleasure, which took me by surprise... Turns out, it's a sweetly cheerful comedy, and the Ted Lasso character, a dumb-American buffoon in the ads, has been made into a big-hearted, optimistic, even charming guy.
"Ted Lasso" could benefit from a bit more from Keeley and from trimming a few minutes from most episodes, but Lawrence crafts such a welcoming space it's hard to complain too much about overfilling it.
The story's gooey nature is fair game, but it's nearly maddening by how unfunny it is, specifically being based around someone the world could use more of.
The series is serendipitous, the kind of surprisingly sweet, abruptly funny show that could easily be added to one's happy place rewatch rotation.
On screen as Ted, Sudeikis is wholly enjoyable, despite the character being folksy to what could be the point of annoyance.
It will make you laugh and even though not everything works out perfectly and some people are still disappointed, ultimately Ted Lasso is uplifting.
Audience Reviews for Ted Lasso: Season 1

May 07, 2021Clever humor and heartwarming moments in the perfect balance.
May 05, 2021Great show. strongly recommend
May 04, 2021Brilliant easy comedy. Covers accurately the disdain of the English for Americans, as well as the can do, irrepressible American spirit that doesn't let anything get it down. Comedy in every other line and all the actors are ideally cast and give flawless performances.
Apr 26, 2021Lovely. Heart-warming.
Apr 26, 2021So wonderful to have a show that is so "nice". The comedy is all built around the premise of a coach who is getting people to see the best in themselves and others. Very uplifting.
Apr 12, 2021Surprising show much better than pretty much anyone would have thought. great writing - characters that actually have a story arc . Just watch it, it will make you smile.
Apr 09, 2021Truly, a tv show for the most simple of the simpletons. Naive, tear-jerking soap-opera-like emotion fest. So Full of kindness and cathartic moments that it beggars belief that any critic in the right mind would consider this anything but a phony chicken soup for the souls. It's not complete rubbish, but it's like the soccer club it portrays, mediocre. Stale, cliche humour or what is used in its stead. Why would a football coach in the right mind go overseas to train a team in a sport he does know squat about? And it had to be a texan - otherwise the cultural contrast would not have been so profound. The premise is idiotic but it is the ending (not hope) that kills the show. I guess producers and writers are having a harder and harder time to come up with decent ideas.
Apr 05, 2021This show is perfection. The humor is witty and the drama is sincere. Vulnerable and down right hilarious from the stars to the side characters. Outlandish and grounded. Jason Sudeikis is refreshing and optimistic and just outright incredible as the former Division1 football coach turn Premier League Manager Ted Lasso.
Apr 04, 2021I can't get enough of this show. These characters have my heart! What a fantastic story and acting. I savor each episode and finish feeling content, but looking forward to the next one. It is well written and well-acted! This show alone is worth the apple subscription.
