The four Johnson brothers -- Mike, Anders, Ty and Axl -- have inherited the powers of the Norse gods. Because the gods lived eons ago, however, time has diluted the powers. The unique ability that each brother possesses isn't very strong, and they still have the same desires and faults that mortals do. Their lives include sibling rivalry, trying to get girls, and hanging out; but they also want to be stronger, and so they embark on a quest to fulfill an ancient prophecy in hope of gaining the full strength of their abilities.

It is a mix of godly concerns and Earthly troubles, held together with sly wit. Go to Full Review

This Kiwi extract is a cut above. And while the feeling isn't quite like being struck by Thor's proverbial thunderbolt, for a hardy few who don't mind their gods in street clothes, it will be easy to develop a sizable crush on The Almighty Johnsons. Go to Full Review

Dean W 07/31/2022 too talk the nudity helped but the few jokes fall flat likeable cast but unlikeable characters for the most part too sexy and violent for the kids and too pedestrian for the grown ups See more 03/18/2018 This WOULd be one of my favorite shows, due to the creative and original use of norse mythology, which I am obssessed with, HOWEVER I could only give a half a star, do to the homophobic ANTI-LGBT B.S. and the ignorance is unreal. They are still pushing for the idea that being gay is a choice, when geneticists have proven that it is partially genetic. Even only partially genetic means there is no choice involved, but these ignorant film writers want to keep pushing the idea. There is only one purpose for discrimination and that is to limit access. EQUALITY costs money. That's all it is, yet these wankers want to keep pushing these lies. It is also sexist... The gaslighting, headgames and an obvious support for manipulating women and portraying them as something to win and use. In fact, i am beginning to SUSPECt the writer is a WOMAN-hating closet case. Does anyone else hear #boycott? See more 01/14/2017 Truly original. A series of comic encounters between a dysfunctional family cursed with great power versus a team of goddesses intent on stopping the return of Odin & the other Norse gods. A quirky, slightly silly but ingenious series, adapting many of the ancient tales of Asgard only relocated to modern Auckland. A real treasure. See more 08/02/2014 So far, this is the new show I most look forward to every week. It's good fun.It reminds me of Hercules, the TV show with Kevin Sorbo. There's a great deal of tongue in cheek humor and it seems to get more fun every week. See more 08/02/2014 I first saw The Almighty Johnsons last year and almost instantly fell in love with the characters and storyline. I marathoned through all three seasons and came to the conclusion that this was definitely my new favorite tv show. It's not popular or widely known outside of New Zealand, but I sincerely hope that it being shown on SyFy gains it a bigger audience. It's a great show--the characters are fantastic, funny, and well-written (especially the female characters), and the storyline is well thought-out and not too complicated or simple. I found myself relating to the characters' unique personalities, and while I found myself disliking one of the main characters (Mike, although you can hardly blame me), I was still totally invested in the character development arcs. Out of the four brothers, Anders' arc is the most intriguing to me and his development is definitely the most prominent (especially due to events in the third season that cause him to develop PTSD, which is portrayed realistically). The ongoing plot is the quest to find the Frigg so that she and Odin (Axl) may be reunited. This will cause the other reincarnations of the gods/goddesses to gain their full powers. It seems simple, but there are several twists that keep you entertained and invested. The female characters are my favorites, because they're some of the best written and developed ones I've found. They all have totally unique personalities and goals, and while they're totally badass, they have real traits other than that. Although this show isn't widely known, I hope that it gains a bigger following thanks to it being shown on SyFy. It deserves it, and more. See more Read all reviews
