A young chef from the fine dining world comes home to Chicago to run his family sandwich shop after a heartbreaking death in his family. A world away from what he's used to, Carmy must balance the soul-crushing realities of small business ownership, his strong-willed and recalcitrant kitchen staff and his strained familial relationships, all while grappling with the impact of his brother's suicide. As Carmy fights to transform both the shop and himself, he works alongside a rough-around-the-edges kitchen crew that ultimately reveals itself as his chosen family.

If you found it a struggle to get through the middle seasons, the final season redeems itself pretty well.

I found it was a bit too sentimental at times, for me at least. It makes sense in a way, after four previous seaasons of getting to know the characters and their relationships, but I didn't hit as hard for me as the earlier seasons. I really liked the absolute tension of the earlier seasons, and while some of that was present in this last season it wasn't nearly as powerful.

I know this show can be frustrating, but I honestly loved this season. It felt less interested in constantly making everyone miserable and more interested in showing what these characters actually mean to each other. There are still episodes that made me want to scream at the screen, but the emotional payoff worked for me.

Episode 7 is a WOW WOW WOW!!! Yes, it starts a bit slow the first couple of episodes but they are short and treat it as the appetisers for the chefs tastng menu. The build up to episode 7 is very clever. Watch the last 3 episodes together as it really flows so well. Usually when a series ends its sad and you are always wondering what if, but I think they have tied this off so well. Now, will there be a spin off....who knows but could be fun based on the Beef lads.

Them course correcting and then finally sticking the landing at the end of the season finale. So many shows lose their way and never can get back to what worked. They really did a superior job making it up to the fans for getting off course. I really enjoyed the last season and the show overall is forever one of my favorite shows.
