What to Know

Critics Consensus

With Christoph Waltz's menacing charm on retainer, The Consultant compensates for its lack of depth with slick presentation and diverting twists.

Graeme Blundell The Australian 04/03/2023
It’s quirky and bingeable, a kind of toxic nightmare leavened by moments of surreal humour. Waltz is always amusing and Wolff and O’Grady are good leads. Go to Full Review
Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) 03/10/2023
Christoph Waltz uses all his Tarantino tics to menace his 20-something staff, although the clash of generations ranks below macabre office rituals in this amusing, if somewhat slight, argument in favour of working safely from home. Go to Full Review
Mike Hale New York Times 03/02/2023
Basgallop’s cross of “Silicon Valley” and “The Devil’s Advocate” doesn’t come together because he hasn’t invested sufficiently in the dramatic infrastructure. Go to Full Review

A successful miniseries for those who enjoy a different, disturbing plot and want to try to solve the mystery and questions presented episode by episode. Christoph Waltz, as always, is the best. [Full Review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

The Consultant is a bonkers show that is a psychologically twisted minefield. Go to Full Review

What a ripper this quickly turns out to be, developing both as an engrossing head-scratcher and a cutting look at business ethics as Patoff pushes his underlings, keen to see what they will sacrifice and who they will compromise to get what they want. Go to Full Review

Murray C Feb 12 If you watch all 8 episodes of this hoping for some resolution you'll be disappointed. There is none. The wafer thin plot remains inscrutable until the very end. Despite it's lack of any kind of coherent storyline, this remains watchable for some good performances, topped by Christoph Walz who is superb as ever. See more Deepika V @deepikav12 Nov 18 I liked the modernization from the book. It made the show relatable to the newer audience. I liked the cliff hangers at the end of each episode. Made me not know who to trust, and want to know what would happen next. The acting was incredibly good, specifically, Craig’s fiancée, Patti, Patrice (ex boyfriend of Elaine), and even the jovial secretary delivering churros and drinks to Patoff. But… the best acting goes to the following: I have to highlight Christoph Waltz’s (Regus Patoff) acting and character. He was boss-energy cool. I couldn’t take him seriously as a ruthless boss who comes out of nowhere to run the terms of a failing video game company. He’s charming, playful, sarcastic, and annoying, all at once, it was hard to hate him. I wanted to be on his side. Nate Wolf (Craig) had the most real expressions, and natural acting. I felt his character, the frustration of everything not working out for him, for people riding all over him. Brittany O Grady, who played Elaine acted well as an annoying, arrogant, snobby person who wants to get her way. Overall, this was a show that I could watch again, and would want a second season of. See more Joan C @JoeTheGuy Nov 8 Waltz is superb, but the complete series leave too much things in the air, some characters are well developed but the lack of depth ruins it all, no chance for a second season, for me it was losing the time. No purpose fulfilled. Maybe it is a critic, ok, but do not lose 4 hours of your time, you already know laboral world stinks. See more David C 03/22/2024 Christoph Waltz is absolutely brilliant in his performance in the consultant. See more Michael D 03/12/2024 The Consultant is an absolute whirlwind of a show. Hovering between thrilling suspense and mind-bending science fiction, it adds a generous sprinkling of absurdity for good measure. Picture it as a hybrid of The Office and a surreal acid trip—utterly captivating in its bizarre charm. Despite its wild premise, the series maintains a coherent narrative that keeps you hooked from start to finish. With Christoph Waltz, known for his stellar performances in Tarantino films, leading the charge, you're in for a treat. Here's to hoping for a second season to dive even deeper into this fantastical world! See more Dhillon P 01/04/2024 While the show kept me quite entertained throughout, I felt it could have led to a much more thrilling conclusion. By the end of the final episode I still had questions in my mind that were not answered. Acting I thought was great for the most part, although Christoff Waltz was the main reason for that. I did not feel my time was wasted but I won't recommend it to a friend neither. See more Read all reviews
