See more Sharon B @Sharon79 Oct 14, 2026 I just watched this movie a few years after its debut. I was left wondering how Tom Holland and Amanda Seyfried didn't win awards for their performances. I have to believe the timing of its release, 2023, had something to do with it. The pandemic was just releasing its grip on us. All I know is this movie is at the top of my recommendations right now. It gave me new respect for Tom Holland, (he is unbelievably electric in what must have been an exhausting role) and reminded me of Amanda Seyfried's range and talent. It made me profoundly sad that a sexually abused young boy could disassociate with so many alters. His suffering must have been monumental. All sexually abused must suffer is some way or other for all their lives. Imbedded in their brains forever. Deeply and profoundly affecting. The slow pace actually makes the viewer feel the excruciating pressure and pain of walking through the uncovering of his system. I watched knowing nothing about it and was delighted to see magnificent acting and a tender thoughtful storytelling. It’s not supposed to be shocking it’s done in such a way as to let the audience feel the struggle of dealing with this kind of trauma. Brava to the writers, producers and cries! I liked that it took a few episodes before it built up enough to realize what was truly happening. I started watching not knowing what it was about, the plot twists pulled me in and I binged the second half of the series. Amanda Seyfried was phenomenal, as always. Tom Holland's performance, his ability to show such emotional depth with the multi-layered role, was deserving of an Emmy nod, easily one of his best performances. I'm surprised he didn't get a nomination and I honestly don't understand why critics panned the show. I would definitely recommend it, especially if you like psychological dramas.
