The Life & Times of Tim: Season 1 (2008)

Critic Consensus: The Life & Times of Tim 's irreverent, understated style won't be for everyone, but those looking for a little darkhearted humor may enjoy its offbeat sensibilities.

Tv Season Info

Life in the big city is a struggle for the mild-mannered, twentysomething title-character (voiced by creator Steve Dildarian) in this adult animated comedy. The two short segments each episode usually result in double trouble for tough-luck Tim, whose parade of embarrassing situations includes explaining to his girlfriend Amy (MJ Otto) why there's a prostitute in his apartment or having to take the daughter of his boss (Peter Giles) to a senior prom in order to climb the ladder at OmniCorp. Co-workers Rodney (Matt Johnson) and Stu (Nick Kroll) provide little support, as Tim finds out when attending a bachelor party or tagging along on a date, while encounters with an elderly man, nursing mother and a subway mugger lead to exasperating---but hilarious---conclusions. Notable guest voices include Cheri Oteri, Jeff Garlin and Phylicia Rashad.

The show gets under the skin, somehow, with its loose Web-clip vibe and looser philosophy of life.

Sophomoric and crude, "The Life & Times of Tim" may be a viable alternative for fans of Cartoon Network's Adult Swim.

Dildarian's ultra-low-key approach hits the right notes more often than not because it's such a contrast with the insanity of the material itself. The first few installments are more hit than miss.

I realized how great it works as a cringe comedy. It's got it all: deceptively simple setups, ulterior motives, and head-shaking denouements. But, at just 12 minutes each, the episodes wrap before they can really set teeth on edge.
