Overall, the Maxx provides much to chew on, particularly about the darker side of human nature. Go to Full Review

Though [the] show may seem a bit esoteric for the MTV crowd, scripters Kieth and Bill Messner-Loebs have wisely incorporated enough elements including violence, cleavage and crude jokes to keep its core demographic tuned in. Go to Full Review

The Maxx is one of the most beautifully drawn and imaginatively produced cartoons around. Go to Full Review

It made up for this shortcoming with an engaging visual style that pulled from various schools of animation, changing from traditional, to simplistic, to computer-generated, to even live-action from one scene to the next. Go to Full Review

Forged S @RT91207856 01/10/2024 This is a weird one. Why iconic? MTV. So many experimental 90s cartoons came from MTV, like Daria, Aeon Flux, Bevis and Butthead and The Maxx based on Image comic of the same name. So many great cartoons were created in the 90s (*The Simpsons, all of Nickelodeon's catalog, the early Cartoon Network, South Park, Family Guy, early Comedy Central) but none were so eponymous of the decade than this short-lived series. While there was a deep, rich story, that I honestly find closely resembled Hellboy in attitude and concept, I honestly found myself thinking every time an episode aired, "WTF am I watching?" I was younger, so maybe the higher concepts were a little above my head, but nevertheless, the show stuck with me. Anyways, have you seen the show? If so, what'd you think? *I know, The Simpsons actually first aired in the 80s as a series of rudimentary shorts, but didn't fully take off until the 90s See more Read all reviews
