Emily Mortimer is a complete hack, failing to capture even a moment of honest, intelligent female narrative. Dominic West is ridiculous without being amusing. The sets exude a Wes Anderson type silliness untethered to any sort of cinematic context. I'm still unable to fathom how the filmmakers managed to make the incomparably lovely Lily James appear genuinely unattractive in early scenes. Nothing the characters do or say makes a lick of sense. The final scene is so badly written I came away feeling annoyed, depressed and more than a little bit insulted. I hope they don't try to do the same thing to Love in a Cold Climate. See more 07/31/2021 The episodes require the considerable and constant energy of the actor, Lily James as Linda, to propel this creaky vehicle forward. The standout performance is that of Andrew Scott as Lord Merlin; the screen lights up whenever he appears. And "Hicham" from *Call My Agent* has a lot of fun with his role as a suave Frenchman.
