The real weakness of Shield Hero lies in the lack of motivation driving most of its characters. Too often they act on whims or decisions that feel poorly justified, which makes their development unconvincing. Dialogue tends to be simplistic, even childish at times, and fails to bring out distinct personalities—leaving the cast flat and one‑dimensional. In the end, it feels like yet another missed opportunity to deliver an anime on the level of Attack on Titan or other standout series. A shame, really, because the animation itself is far from bad.
