A finale that feels like a fresh start, "A" raises the narrative stakes without taking itself too seriously - and brings the season to a tense, fast-paced conclusion.
The finale wasn't afraid to go to a pretty dark place -- and to move at a mercifully faster pace than season 3's final dud.

The pacing is still a bit off and the show is still relentlessly, almost ridiculously dark, but there's so much improvement that we're trying to be optimistic about its future.

Abrupt ending aside, A was a deftly executed game of suspense.

With almost the entire group of survivors now reunited, the episode ends on an almost rousing cliffhanger, but one that links neatly into the episode's overarching theme - who are the real victims, and who should we really fear?
While I do feel that the conclusion could have been stronger, this was one of the most well-directed and executed episodes of the latter half of this season.
AMC's The Walking Dead capped its fourth season with a bloodbath that answered one major question and set up a slew of new ones as the truth of Terminus was finally revealed.
The Season 4 finale wipes the slate clean, giving us some of the best, most exciting and frightening moments in the show's entire run. As dark as the show turned two episodes ago... Sunday night's episode is even more grim and unsettling.
As far as cliffhangers go, The Walking Dead gets an "A" with tonight's season four finale.
