Critic Reviews for Say Yes

Imagine being so deep into the apocalypse that you're actually nostalgic for the early days of the apocalypse. Instead of, you know, missing the life you had before the world ended? That's sort of terrifying.

Who could deny it was fun seeing Michonne and Rick lay waste to dozens of the pungent horrors armed only with a short temper and that inanimate carbon rod Rick had picked up (and yes, Michonne's sword).

Director Greg Nicotero uses the scenery quite well, bringing an abandoned carnival to life with more unique zombie carnage, especially one windshield walker.

An unusually quiet episode of The Walking Dead, one whose conflict was almost solely devoted to some medium-stakes zombie danger.

Rick and Michonne are fun together. I was totally with him in wanting them to extend this road trip into a '70s-film-style picaresque.

The road trip is a cute diversion, yet I can't help feeling the show is spinning its wheels before a full-on rebellion against the Saviors in the season's last episode or two.

Overall, last night's episode was a grab bag for me. We got some character moments I did appreciate - the payoff with Michonne and Rick at the end was lovely.
