After a capsized Daryl Dixon washes ashore in France, he struggles to piece together how he got there and why. His arrival in France raises the ire of leaders within an autocratic movement centered in Paris, and endangers a young boy at the heart of a benevolent religious movement called the Union of Hope. Daryl agrees to shepherd the child and his caretakers on their pilgrimage to the Nest, a sanctuary that promises safety, in return for the Union's help securing him passage back to America. The series tracks Daryl's journey, fighting his way through the unique Walker strains and provincial violence of France. Along the way, Daryl finds his desire to return home complicated by the new connections he forms and the renewed sense of hope these relationships give him. Meanwhile, back in America, Carol Peletier's search for Daryl forces her to confront old trauma, as she enlists a new ally under false pretenses to help her.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Centering Norman Reedus' fan favorite character in a fresh setting, Daryl Dixon can be a wobbly shot across the crossbow but still gives The Walking Dead faithful plenty more to chew on.

More importantly, new protagonist Isabelle feels real and not just another Walking Dead chess piece being moved around the gory board, and her relationship with Daryl feels equally so. It is nice to have something to care about after so long. Go to Full Review

The overwhelming sense of Daryl Dixon is that we’ve seen all this before, whether in The Walking Dead franchise or in other zombie-akin series that debuted in its wake. Go to Full Review

Zabel and the writers' greater accomplishment is the way they've accounted for our fatigue with the original show's kill-or-be-killed survival philosophy, which rusted into a grind by its close. Go to Full Review

Edward L @Glyndower Mar 6 The problem with this franchise is that it passed its sell-by date years ago when the British lead actor left. The seasons that followed and the spin-offs just revive the same story: a quest threatened by the monsters, with increasingly poor actors, especially the third-rate Jack Nicholson impersonator Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Daryl and Carol are two of the more interesting characters, portrayed by good actors, but the series appears to be the formula as before transposed to France. See more Zane T @ZaneThind Jan 29 A nice fitting way to continue Daryl's story. For Walking Dead fans this is something fresh and nice. There are new characters and a whole new language now being spoken in The Walking Dead universe. This brings in the western fans with the eastern fans closer together. See more Matt L @mattdegu Jan 21 No spoilers: To continue The Walking Dead watch 'The Ones Who Live' single-series and 'Daryl Dixon' here. Each contain one the best TWD episodes I can remember, and simply continue the story. (I haven't seen the Maggie/Negan spin-off yet). The ensemble cast is less-sizeable in both, and the characters at the sides of the stories do feel a bit less-detailed in Daryl Dixon in particular, but that's the nature of these spin-offs I think. France is also less dangerous than Georgia in terms of its survivors, and it's more under-control - but that's not an unrealistic thing imo, just a bit different to the original show. The central characters are fine, and it's TWD(!) - so expect nothing too different here anyway. France is 'well shot' and is a strong choice of setting, if the story does focus mainly on its Catholic and rustic side. But that is nothing outrageous at all. And there is plenty of French dialogue supplied with subtitles too (to address another unfair criticism in here!) See more Jakey B @RT00961171 Oct 6 Even with a slow start, it eventually comes alive. The first four eps really didn't do much at all, but its made up for in great last two that did everything they needed to. The French scenery and communities added something fresh to the Walking Dead world, even if the plot is familiar. As an action adventure following Daryl Dixon as a fish out of water, it does the job but just hoping the next seasons can stay on track with the quality of the last two episodes. 7.5/10 See more Steve A @RT92021794 Sep 12 Love this new off-shoot of Walking Dead....Really Good!
