Robert Lloyd Los Angeles Times 12/05/2019
It is an impolite sort of show, profane, sexually farcical, mock-heroic, sometimes violent. Go to Full Review

I hope we see more of Matt Berry and his co-writer Arthur Mathews's fantasy brand of comedy. Whether that should be with the unlovable but pitiable Toast, I'm not so sure. Go to Full Review
Yolanda Zappaterra Time Out 04/22/2019
Berry - complete with a Mallard streak, bushy 'tache and permanently puzzled expression - is perfect, and if the whole feels like a series of sketches knitted together to form an utterly ridiculous narrative, that's no bad thing Go to Full Review

Andrei D 08/21/2023 Pics up speed quickly See more 11/23/2021 so funny, love Matt Berry See more 05/13/2021 Have you ever been shopping for a decent bottle of wine, and found a little tag on the shelf indicating a wine critic had given a particular wine high marks, and then after you bought the wine, found it to be so bad as to be undrinkable? If not, and you would like to find out how that experience feels, just watch the first episode of "Toast of London" expecting it to live up to the excellent audience ratings. This is bad British comedy at its worst. Loud, hammy, predictable and swathed in canned laughter which sounds like it was literally dumped out of a can. But most of all, not funny. I like a nice swig of cheap bad wine as much as anybody, but this one made me doubt the credibility of the Rotten Tomatoes rating system. If Rotten Tomatoes says this unfunny mess is a 92, how can we ever learn to trust again? See more 04/24/2020 Matt Berry and his sonorous voice screaming yes.... Yes indeed. See more 10/23/2019 Very funny! Even better the second time See more 03/24/2019 I seldom laugh at recent sitcoms but this one got me several times with the outrageous adventures of Steven Toast. The theme written and performed by Matt Berry and his band was wonderfully wistful and very affecting. See more Read all reviews
