Critic Reviews for True Blood Season 3

All Critics (22) | Top Critics (12)

True Blood is dominated by heated emotions and tortured love, but there continues to be spiky satire and camp at every turn.

True Blood vibrates at a level of inspired wackiness so high that its consistency is hard to determine.

"Hot Sexy Vampires in Love!" Where do I sign up for that? Silly, gross, soapy, mysterious, intriguing, exotic, erotic "True Blood" is fun.

Rather than running through a lot of well-written, well-acted, well-edited expository material, True Blood was back to playing on our hearts and minds and throats.

True Blood plummets me into a world so dark and dirty and hilarious and unnerving that it glamours me into a placid state, then leaves me wanting more.

Jun 20, 2010 | Full Review…

It's unavoidable that "True Blood" will fall into some of the same dramas as other vampire shows. It's just got sharper teeth.

Jun 20, 2010 | Full Review…

Those of you who love "True Blood" for its soapy mix of sex and horror - and occasional flashes of humor - nothing important is missing from the three episodes I've seen of the new season.

Jun 20, 2010 | Full Review…

Many viewers probably come to "True Blood" for the thrills and the romance but it's the humor that allows the show to rise a step above similar TV fare.

True Blood is the TV equivalent of the perfect summer beach book. It's funny, it's sexy, it's imaginative, it's outrageous.

May 15, 2018 | Full Review…

While I wasn't thrilled with the over-stuffing of this episode, I was truly excited (in more ways than one) to see my favorite characters back again.

By the middle of the second episode, the show begins to gain traction and sucks you in with its new set of tantalizing mysteries.

Audience Reviews for True Blood: Season 3

In season 3, werewolves became a threat while vampire clans got into trouble. Much more adventurous than the previous seasons, season 3 was another enjoyable experience.

Ths was ok but i thought Maryellen sucked just didnt like that whole concept

Shows the beginning of the plotting issues that plague later seasons. But the journey is still fun.
  • Feb 11, 2019
A seven season supernatural ride in the American landscape, delivered by an awesome cast & crew!! Truly imaginative storyline that takes the Vampire franchise in a new direction- a must see for fans of the genre!!
  • Jun 29, 2017
I adore the intentionally campy B feel they create in each season, they make it clear not to take anything thats happening to seriously in this crazy horror, comedy, soap opera, meets "goreous" adventure.

By far my favorite season of TB. The King of Mississippi (Russell) and the psycho vampire, Franklin, mixed into the TB characters added instead of detracted from the storylines. Loved Russell on the News ripped the spine out of the newscaster. We also learn more about Bill's initial intentions and how vampire hierarchy truly works.
  • Nov 12, 2014
While the secondary storylines are more interesting than the main story itself, True Blood's introduction to werewolves are a great addition to it's brilliant mythology.
  • Jul 27, 2014
While some stuff isn't as interesting as the show wants you to think (werewolves?) the third season benefits from great additions to the cast.
  • Jul 02, 2014
Eric: "Blood is too precious to lose". Okay this season may not be as crazy or brilliant as the second season was but this season still got that one thing that made the second season so great and that is a fun villain.
