Critic Reviews for Wilfred Season 4

All Critics (10) | Top Critics (1)

[It is] at its best when it walks a tightrope between answering the question [Who is Wilfred?] in multiple different ways, [and] "is Wilfred's nature important..." In the grand scheme of things, not answering those questions is the best move for Wilfred.

The show has promised answers, delivered red herrings, and somehow kept up the laughter in the face of grim situational comedy.

It only seems fitting that such an incredibly thought-provoking ending would come from such an original and odd show

The mystery was fine, but Wilfred was at its best when the titular canine was acting like, well, a canine. Perhaps I'm easily amused, but it's always funny to watch a man dressed as a dog doing dog-like things.

Nov 14, 2018 | Full Review…

For a comedy about a grown man in a dog costume, FX/X's Wilfred has surprisingly evolved into one of the darkest shows of our time - and Wednesday's two-part series finale proved to be its most twisted hour yet.

Wilfred's series finale left me in a weird spot. And just to be clear, by "weird," I mean "slightly confused but also mostly satisfied."

Ultimately, there were probably two seasons worth of story from this premise, but as closure, "Happiness" worked.

While there was a bit of backtracking involved, the events that transpired in "Amends" were nevertheless intriguing, eccentric and at times very dramatic -- true to Wilfred form, at least in recent memory.

The Wilfred writers have effectively allowed themselves space to build towards an impressive endgame.

Wood and Gann remain an absolute joy to watch as well with their chemistry providing the backbone for the FX series.

Audience Reviews for Wilfred: Season 4

  • Sep 29, 2019
    Weird quirky goodness
  • Dec 21, 2018
The show ends as strongly as it began despite FX warning the writers that the 4th season would be the last and to wrap it up. The poignant undertone of the show grows steadily and finally reveals itself in the final episodes. The theme will forever be in my mind.
  • Sep 11, 2016
Buena conclusión, se interesa en resolver los asuntos pendientes de temporadas pasadas sin dejar de lado un poco de misterio y añadiendo sus clásicos toques de comedia negra a los momentos más emocionales de la serie.
  • Aug 07, 2015
Absolutely beautiful. Mind blowing, breath taking, and tear jerking. I'd give it a 7/5 if I could.
  • Jul 16, 2015
Miserable ending, also the actress that replaced Mary Steenburgen was a poor poor choice. Disappointing finale.
  • May 14, 2015
By the 4th season, the show has become very...strange...but in a good way. It's also very sentimental at times, and may even force you to bring out the tissues.
  • Apr 22, 2015
Wilfred probably could have stood to keep it ambiguous but by trying to make sense of its nonsensicality it robs the show of its appeal and leaves you with a finale that is both unsatisfying and reaching.
  • Jan 09, 2015
No bad, but Wilfred can be best.
  • Sep 07, 2014
One of the greatest finales of all time and it's funnier than it has been in a while.
  • Aug 31, 2014
Intrigued up until the last two or three episodes, where everything fell apart in a very unsatisfactory way. :|
