Andrés Cantor
Born Dec. 22, 1962, in Buenos Aires, Andrés Cantor has worked as a sports anchor, providing Spanish-language commentary and play-by-play for U.S. networks on association football (known as soccer in the U.S.), among other sports. Cantor is well-known for his habit of shouting "¡Gooooooool!" after a score. This practice has been common in Latin America since the 1940s, but was relatively unknown to American audiences until Cantor introduced the practice while working at Univision in the early 1990s. He later joined Telemundo, where he was an anchor and play-by-play commentator for baseball during the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens. He is employed by Telemundo Deportes, the Spanish-language division of NBC Sports, and continues to provide commentary on Telemundo, as well as NBC's Universo network. Cantor also founded radio network Futbol de Primera, whichowns the Spanish-language rights to a number of sports properties. He has covered the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing as well as the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London. Cantor has also won a number of awards, including Sports Personality of the Year in 1994 by the American Sportscasters Association, the Hispanic Heritage Award in 2004, and a Sports Emmy in 2014 for Best On-Air Personality in Spanish. FIFA Magazine has also named him one of the all-time legendary sports broadcasters.
