Ilka Gruning was an actress who had a successful Hollywood career. Gruning's career in acting began with her roles in various films like "Die Freudlose gasse" (1925) with Asta Nielsen, the Ann Sheridan drama "Kings Row" (1941) and the Jeffrey Lynn action film "Underground" (1941). She also appeared in the Humphrey Bogart dramatic adaptation "Casablanca" (1942). Her passion for acting continued to her roles in projects like "Desperate Journey" (1942), the Charles Winninger adaptation "Friendly Enemies" (1942) and the romance "Iceland" (1942) with Sonja Henie. She also appeared in "This Is the Army" (1943). In the latter half of her career, she continued to act in "Murder in the Music Hall" (1946), "Temptation" (1946) and the crime picture "Desperate" (1947) with Steve Brodie. She also appeared in "Repeat Performance" (1948) with Louis Hayward. Gruning last acted in the biopic "Words and Music" (1948) with June Allyson. Gruning passed away in November 1964 at the age of 88.
