Biography:

After 10 years of working with government television, I started Screen It in 1996 and went full-time in 1997 after being chosen as the sole reviewer for AOL's now defunct Entertainment Asylum website. Ranked as the third most useful website on the 'Net by Roger Ebert, Screen It provides the most detail content reviews of films and videos anywhere. If you have kids or are simply interested in what's in a film (along with a standard artistic review) drop by for a visit.

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania (2023) 46% 4/10 EDIT “I can't remember ever wanting to walk out during a press screening of any post-2008 Marvel movie, but I had the urge this time around and wouldn't have missed much had I followed that impulse.” – Screen It! Feb 24, 2023 Full Review Jesus Revolution (2023) 54% 6.5/10 EDIT “While the film loses some steam in its second act (along with the earlier feel-good vibes), the performances are generally good and it's undeniably a polished production.” – Screen It! Feb 24, 2023 Full Review Emily (2022) 87% 6.5/10 EDIT “An intriguing, artsy, and handsomely mounted drama.” – Screen It! Feb 24, 2023 Full Review The Son (2022) 29% 5/10 EDIT “I didn't hate the film as some other critics have, but while well-intentioned and featuring some good performances, the manipulation is a bit too overt ” – Screen It! Jan 20, 2023 Full Review Missing (2023) 89% 6.5/10 EDIT “A high-tech thriller that works fairly well.” – Screen It! Jan 20, 2023 Full Review M3GAN (2022) 93% 6/10 EDIT “Despite its various issues, it's a fun ride in the moment, no doubt helped by the black comedy elements sprinkled through the film. It won't be for all tastes, but I enjoyed it and was entertained enough.” – Screen It! Jan 13, 2023 Full Review Plane (2023) 78% 6.5/10 EDIT “It's a pretty simple story, but all involved milk it for everything it's worth, resulting in a quite intense and gripping, less than two-hour ride be that in the air or on the ground.” – Screen It! Jan 13, 2023 Full Review A Man Called Otto (2022) 70% 7/10 EDIT “Definitely gives off enough warm and fuzzy vibes to pull on the heartstrings and make us care about the characters.” – Screen It! Jan 13, 2023 Full Review Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody (2022) 43% 5/10 EDIT “The biggest issue -- beyond things feeling a bit rushed even with the two-plus hour runtime -- is that this is just another by the numbers biopic about a talented and ultimately doomed artist.” – Screen It! Dec 23, 2022 Full Review The Whale (2022) 64% 7/10 EDIT “The performances are good across the board (especially from Fraser who should earn every male lead acting award this year) and the film certainly delivers an emotional wallop, particularly at the end. ” – Screen It! Dec 23, 2022 Full Review Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022) 95% 6/10 EDIT “Not as good as its immediate processor but enjoyable enough.” – Screen It! Dec 23, 2022 Full Review Babylon (2022) 57% 7/10 EDIT “The performances are good, as is much of the dialogue, and I imagine this will be a contender in multiple categories for the various 2022 movie awards.” – Screen It! Dec 23, 2022 Full Review Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio (2022) 96% 7.5/10 EDIT “Might be a bit dark for younger kids. But what else would you expect from Del Toro who leaves his creative fingerprints all over this project and the stop-motion-animation puppets that he and his team have brought to life?” – Screen It! Dec 16, 2022 Full Review Avatar: The Way of Water (2022) 76% 8/10 EDIT “Simply put, this is an offering that must be seen in the biggest format possible. And if experienced that way and you simply go along for the ride, oh, what a ride it will be for you. One of the best sheer entertainment offerings of the year.” – Screen It! Dec 16, 2022 Full Review Spoiler Alert (2022) 87% 6/10 EDIT “Despite being an overly familiar "disease of the week" sort of plot, it's all still done in a funny, sad, and definitely emotionally effective way.” – Screen It! Dec 9, 2022 Full Review Empire of Light (2022) 44% 5.5/10 EDIT “The performances are quite good as is the cinematography by the always great Roger Deakins.” – Screen It! Dec 9, 2022 Full Review Strange World (2022) 72% 6/10 EDIT “Good vocal work, handsome visuals, and a definite creative flair.” – Screen It! Nov 23, 2022 Full Review The Fabelmans (2022) 92% 8/10 EDIT “I loved every minute of the flick, especially seeing the real and maybe somewhat fictionalized influences on Spielberg and his later works.” – Screen It! Nov 23, 2022 Full Review Devotion (2022) 81% 6.5/10 EDIT “It's all done quite well, from recreating the military planes and vessels of the time to the wartime action, with the performances grounding all of that. ” – Screen It! Nov 23, 2022 Full Review Spirited (2022) 70% 7/10 EDIT “I enjoyed the flick from start to finish and am fairly confident I had a smile or at least a grin on my face for most of the just over two-hour run time. ” – Screen It! Nov 18, 2022 Full Review She Said (2022) 88% 6.5/10 EDIT “The performances are strong across the board, especially from Mulligan and Kazan who give the film its heart and soul.” – Screen It! Nov 18, 2022 Full Review Disenchanted (2022) 38% 4/10 EDIT “Doesn't go far enough in putting a spin on (let alone subverting) the norms of the genre. I found myself fairly bored and thus waiting for my happily ever after - the roll of the end credits - to show up. ” – Screen It! Nov 18, 2022 Full Review Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022) 84% 6/10 EDIT “The action is handled decently and the special effects are top-notch, but it's the less "exciting" material that makes the film work, namely that of the aforementioned grief that pulses throughout the film.” – Screen It! Nov 11, 2022 Full Review Enola Holmes 2 (2022) 93% 6.5 EDIT “It's always fun watching such sleuths do their things in these sorts of films, and Brown and Cavill don't disappoint in portraying that.” – Screen It! Nov 4, 2022 Full Review The Banshees of Inisherin (2022) 96% 7/10 EDIT “A mesmerizing tale told well, with excellent performances all around. Expect lots of award love to come this film's way once that season begins.” – Screen It! Nov 4, 2022 Full Review
