Here they encounter a cannibal priest and eventually stumble on a bizarre fortress of amputees and freaks who have been trained to protect themselves from the outside world. This surreal and twisted film, half art-house and half exploitation, shows glimpses of Terrance Malick's visual poetry and relies heavily on the mad genius of Tod Browning's FREAKS.
