When Karim (Karim Tarek), a straight French-Algerian student, tries to find gay members of the Muslim community, these taboos are brought kicking and screaming onto the screen. On his investigation, Karim uncovers a number of gay Arabs, most notably Farid (Farid Tali) whom he builds a close friendship with. But with friendship comes desire, and Karim is struck by the attraction he feels for Farid, forcing him to confront his own sexuality, as well as the attitudes prevalent throughout his culture. Director Rémi Lange forms an interesting allegory for the Muslim homosexual experience through the narrative of ROAD TO LOVE. A brave, absorbing drama, Lange's movie tackles subject matter lesser directors would doubtless avoid, making this a fascinating meditation on the experience of gays in the Muslim world. [More]

A home movie in nearly every sense, replete with shaky hand-helds, aimlessly quavering tracking and clueless angles.

Doesn't add much to the coming-out genre, as it has been established in countless Sundance competition films and made-for-television movies.

A coy sexual-awakening vignette acquires home-movie texture and sociological flavor.
