Catherine (Fanny Ardant) is an attractive woman with a great career and a seemingly solid marriage to Bernard (Gérard Depardieu), her husband of 25 years. Their lives seem to be going well until Catherine discovers that Bernard is having an affair. Realizing that she does not really know her husband or what he really wants, Catherine hires Marlene (Emmanuelle Béart), a beautiful prostitute, to act as “Nathalie,” a woman who will seduce Bernard and extract answers to the questions that are obsessing her. Instead of the traditional man/woman relationship, what begins is a mesmerizing relationship between two women. Expecting to be in control of the situation, Catherine meets with Marlene on a regular basis. However, what she learns soon takes her into a world that not only startles her but begins to change her. A woman’s take on the classic love triangle, Nathalie is written and directed by Anne Fontaine with her usual flair and intelligence. -- © Wellspring Media [More]

Reviews
... the conceit works beautifully with the right personalities, talented and uninhibited, engaged in its execution.
Exceptional performances and the oh-so-Frenchness of the complications produce an erotic tale that plays like the best gossipy story you ever heard about people you thought you knew.
Nathalie... offers compelling food for thought, with a little visual stimulation thrown in on the side.
Between the leonine Ardant, the streets of Paris, and the nearly hypnotic score by Michael Nyman, the sophisticated Nathalie oozes with elegance.
A woman (Fanny Ardant) hires a prostitute (Emmanuelle Béart) to seduce her unfaithful husband (Gérard Depardieu) in Anne Fontaine's seductive and intriguing film.
Nathalie is intricate, provocative, cleanly acted, but it's never entirely convincing -- and never more so than in the table-turning climax.
French sexual politics may not resonate with American sensibilities
A final big 'twist,' which should be no surprise..., sets everything to right again, a case of French marital therapy by way of the Red Shoe Diaries.
The film's considerable eroticism is all in the atmosphere and the dialogue.
Deals with the impleasantries of sexual behavior without submitting to the level of cheap softcore theatrics.
Worth a look, especially if you appreciate the very particular and sometimes peculiar charms of contemporary French cinema.
The performances are better than the material deserves, but, even so, there's often no tangible friction between the female leads.
As a rather naughty slice of erotica it works brilliantly, with Ardant and Béart making a fascinating partnership.
