Light and inoffensive but lacks the depth and revolutionary bite of Cho's best stand-up material.

Written by and starring comedian Margaret Cho, "Bam Bam and Celeste" tells the story of best friends Bam Bam (Bruce Daniels) and Celeste (Margaret Cho), who, at 33, are stuck in the Midwest hometown where they grew up. Always outsiders, Bam Bam and Celeste turn to a local gypsy fortune teller -- Kathy Najimy, of "Sister Act" and "Veronica's Closet" -- who gives them the encouragement they need to make a break for it when they see a call for contestants on a reality-TV makeover show which shoots in New York. As the two best friends make their way across Middle America, they encounter the best and worst of the world outside their hometown. They meet up with some thugs who want to trash their car -- but are saved by a fearless outdoorswoman -- Jane Lynch of "Best in Show" and "A Mighty Wind" -- who encourages them by example to follow their dreams. A racist gas station attendant (Danny Hoch of "Jails, Hospitals and Hip Hop") taunts them, but Bam Bam and Celeste are not deterred; they take him on and leave him in their dust. The goal of their trip is to appear on the most popular reality TV makeover show in the country -- "Trading Faces," hosted by Stephan Cho (John Cho, star of "American Pie" and "Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle"). Witht he encouragement of Eugene, the show's booking assistant -- Alan Cumming (X-Men, The Anniversary Party) -- Bam Bam and Celeste push forward on their journey. Little do they know that they will have to take on their evil high school nemeses, Jackie, Ryan and Allegra, now the owners of New York's glamorous Salon Mirage, to prove their own beauty and worth. Will Bam Bam and Celeste's friendship survive the trip? Will mommy -- the imitation of her own mother that Margaret Cho has immortalized in her one-woman show -- come to the rescue by finding Bam Bam's magic eyelash curler? Will the villains of Salon Mirage -- and Bam Bam and Celeste's past -- be vanquished? "Bam Bam and Celeste" follows two fabulous outsider heroes as they achieve their dreams and discover that beauty is within. -- Official Site [More]

Reviews for Bam Bam and Celeste
you'll have to be a lifetime member of the loyal Cho army to enjoy this low-rent road picture.
Comedian Margaret Cho calls her first non-concert feature as writer-star "a fag and fag-hag 'Thelma and Louise,'" a description that's funnier than anything in Bam Bam and Celeste.
