Ben D @RT87620530 01/23/2025 David Owen (Tim Robbins) is on a crusade to end the incessant noise of car alarms and security alarms and backup beepers from NYC, and a more moral and just crusade I have never sympathized with more — add people on public transportation blaring their music, YouTube videos, and Tik Tok clips, and I’d avail him of my services on his quest. But Noise is a story told in a fragmented, stupid way and shoehorns superfluous love interests and sex scenes — of course, a threesome with an older man (Robbins) and two young, attractive, foreign women (Margarita Levieva & Maria Ballesteros) — where a more focused plot on David’s devolution into his vigilante persona, “The Rectifier”. Alas, yet another movie derailed by gratuitous sex! And I’m a defender of “the sex scene” when done right. While it’s good enough to merit a watch, Noise is more of a “what could have been” movie. It’s a plot I’d love to see remade for the 2020s. See more dave s @RT68722908 10/12/2021 While the premise is interesting and the subject is certainly something that most city dwellers can relate to, Noise ultimately sinks under the weight of its own excesses. David Owen lives in Manhattan with his wife and young daughter. Like most people, he finds the constant drone of the city annoying and ultimately takes matters into his own hands, vandalizing cars with activated alarms, among other things. The film suffers from too many affectations (freeze-frames, split screens, etc), as well as a non-linear storyline that unnecessarily muddles the plot and too many montages of the protagonist vandalizing vehicles. It could have been an interesting character study had it shown a bit more restraint and delved more into why David reacted is such an extreme manner. Instead, it just becomes tiresome. The mayor is over done, but beside that, it's all on the level. It's not a feel good movie, but it does make you feel good. Somebody doing what everybody would want to do.
