Trevor... A documentary film crew has set out to make an insiders’ guide to the nightlife of New York, inspired by a chance Fashion Week meeting with it's most powerful nightclub doorman, Trevor W. Trevor will "star" in the doc, his idea being to show this crew (and the world that knows and loves him) the serious business involved with holding such an esteemed position of power.

His life will be followed not only while on duty at the club, but also during his jet-set jaunts across the country working private events, and in his more personal daily life, which includes selecting the latest high fashions with a personal shopper, yoga class, and visiting his adoptive grandma for Sunday brunch.

As shooting unfolds, the crew begins to suspect that perhaps their star doesn’t hold the power he claims. Mild investigation reveals that he indeed lost his job. Everyone seems to be aware of this fact - except for Trevor himself. Treading lightly around the sensitive subject, the crew is forced to deal with Trevor disappearing and a rival doorman’s attempt to steal the spotlight, before finally confronting Trevor with a dose of reality.

Now Trevor will have to look for a new job - something that is at his level, something he can be happy with. But what, exactly, is on the level of a man used to being on top?

The Doorman, in the end, is an insider’s guide to a character we all may know and love (to hate) - the larger-than-life “big shot” who lacks awareness that he is, indeed, a human being. Trevor W. may have held the power over many important people. But what is a doorman without a door? --© Gigantic Pictures

[Director] Price keeps the humor believably shallow and the movie from getting too far from the aim of chronicling an exclusivity junkie's fall.

A mockumentary about the people who run Manhattan nightlife, has solid-gold satire at its cocaine-stained fingertips.

Built on an amusing idea that can't quite support an entire movie, Wayne Price's comedic debut might have made a terrific short.

Not until the goofy closing credits does the film hit its tonal stride and nail what could have been its saving, salient theme: the absurd lines that fancy people draw (and obey) to make themselves feel special on a Saturday night.

It's not enough to have an English-language-mangling actor bumble improvisationally among real people: You need structure, and situations crafted enough to escalate mild amusement toward hilarity.
