Critic Reviews for 7 Days (Les 7 jours du talion)
Director Grou lacks the gene for sheer, bloody exploitation, he also doesn't know how to rack up the tension and get under viewers' collective skin.
Despite the blood and gore, 7 Days is a cut above the usual splice-and-dice horror festival, but it's not for the squeamish or fainthearted.
Like most brave thrillers that delve into very dark places, '7 Days' is not so much "fun" as it is fascinating.
This first feature from Daniel Grou, which recently premiered at Sundance, has much to offer.
...one of the most gripping thrillers to come around in quite some time.
Torture porn goes philosophical in this meditation on the emotional and psychological toll of vengeance.
7 Days is a brutal, passionate and precisely drawn refutation of a standard-issue cinematic revenge picture, containing harrowing and visceral scenes of violence side-by-side with delicate moments of recognizable humanity.
Brave the violence and see a filmmaker in utter control of a story we thought we'd seen done too many times to appreciate all over again.
Grou's thriller tells a deeply immersive story that at no point strays from its intended path & delivers with such a punch that you'll be talking about it for 7 days after.
In directing this torture porn, Daniel Grou is intent on dismissing the doctor's oath, 'primum non nocere,' and he does that quite well.
Perhaps not quite torture porn but undeniably torture drama, 7 Days is one of the most gut-wrenching and disgusting things you could order On Demand all year.
Audience Reviews for 7 Days (Les 7 jours du talion)
An emotionally dark and brutal movie, but with the over extended silences and poor camera work the only person that feels like they are being tortured is the audience!More
An extremely uncomfortable drama that follows a man yearning so much for revenge and doing things he could have never imagined being capable of. The gut-wrenching story is surprisingly moving, refusing the exploitation and nihilism, but nevertheless going a bit too far in a poor, shallow symbolism.More
If you go into this expecting an extreme torure-porn gore flick you will be left disappointed. This is not a horror film, it is disturbing thought-provoking drama about a father who kidnaps the man responsible for the rape and murder of his daughter and plans to torture him over a period of 7 days. The film is grim and has a cold realistic atmosphere throughout with no musical score and little dialogue. There are only three moments of physical torture to endure, though they are not very gory they still are brutal and painful to watch. But the pacing of the film was quite slow and the ending was unsatisfactory, but the acting was very good all-round.More
Ok..this movie had 4 stars from me right up to the very last minute of the movie. It just abrubtly ends with a not so satisfying conclusion. It was riveting up to that last minute, however. An unnerving study of the unraveling of the human psyche, spiraling down from hard-working family man to the evil being he was trying to destroy. Graphic and uncomfortable to watch, but realistic in its potrayal of how one man tries to rectify a situation that happens too often in todays society. French or not, a really good film....I just wish they found a different ending. :(More
