Critics Consensus

The rich colors, sweet songs, adorable mice and endearing (if suffering) heroine make Cinderella a nostalgically lovely charmer.

On her own, Snow White could have just been a one-off fairy tale heroine. But with the success of Cinderella, the very idea of the “Disney princess” archetype was born. Go to Full Review

Walt Disney's Cinderella -- without any qualification that comes to mind -- is one of the most delightful bits of entertainment ever shown on a screen. Go to Full Review

You could argue that Cinderella is worth rewatching in 2019 for the animation — which truly is gorgeous — but that also gets you into some quagmire thanks to the poor 2005 Diamond Edition restoration that Disney continues to re-release... Go to Full Review

Tom F @RT55173143 1h I’m rewatching all the Disney films, and aside from the technical achievements and the occasionally emotionally powerful moments most of them are pretty meh. Cinderella might be the least interesting of all, with most of its energy devoted to mouse hijinks and a terrible message to young girls. See more Joel H @786Joel Mar 20 Few Disney films had as big of impact as Cinderella. Not only did this animated movie set the baseline for this classic folktale for multiple generations, but it also saved The Walt Disney Company from bankruptcy. Plus, it’s just a great movie. It’s got the right balance of heart, humor, and magic. Ilene Woods brings such warmth and goodness to the character of Cinderella. And we get not just one, but four villains, each vying for which one is the most wicked (with Lady Tremaine at the top). From the songs to the animation to the suspenseful and delightful ending, Cinderella is just the right fit.
