Based on Dicken's classic novel, this is the first sound version of the oft-filmed tale of a plucky orphan who struggles to survive on the rough, unforgiving London streets. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi

Probably the thing that Polanski's Oliver Twist does best, is deliver the mood of the day
The one flaw is a forced action sequence at the end of the picture, but that's hardly a reason to avoid it.
This black-and-white film adaptation of Oliver Twist is as good as the original novel, starting with the character's life at the orphanage. It's short yet okay for me.
