Slingin Monkey P @RT47851171 1d Anybody with any sense will tell you this is one of the greatest epic films ever made but these days with these critics on RT and their leftist agendas you gotta take some of that with a grain of salt. Watch it for yourself. It’s awesome. See more Chris B @Papa13070 Jun 1 Mel Gibson not only stars, but also directs one of the greatest historical movies, that have ever been made. While I'm not aware of the historical facts and what parts might be true or not, the appeal of the movie is undeniable. The mix of drama, action and sometimes humor, is perfect. The action scenes are shot great and the intense feeling of being right there, in the battlefield ensues. The movie follows through, from start to finish and movie deservedly got many awards. Be it the acting, the costume department or any other aspect of the film, if you like action movies and/or historical movies, there is absolutely no reason for you not to watch this! Also, Brendon Gleeson and Brian Cox are really at top of their game. The first act is quietly devastating. Gibson takes his time building the emotional scaffolding, and by the time the story demands you to care, you already do, deeply and without resistance. That kind of setup is a craft in itself. How do you step outside yourself enough to shape a scene you are simultaneously living inside? Whatever the answer, it works. His presence on screen carries the film, and his vision behind the camera gives it its scale and soul. Not every performance lands with the same conviction. Some of the supporting work feels like it is simply filling space. But the main cast more than compensates, delivering with full commitment to a story that asked a great deal of them. The Academy got it right. Best Picture was not a consolation, it was a verdict. FREEDOM, it turns out, is also just good cinema. Although it's not 100% historically accurate, the movie has great battle scenes and a unique romance to it. Overall a fun movie to watch. See more Kevin P @RT55971421 Apr 10 An awesome Medieval war epic of Scotland rebelling against the tyranny of England. Mel Gibson is great and the battle sequences are so grand and exciting. The pacing is great, as each scene building up the momentum for the next. The movie has VERY Questionable historical accuracy. But fortunately, the movie leans heavily more into epic historical fantasy anyways. So, I just treat this like I'm watching Lord of the Rings, without the orcs or hobbits. The cinematography is fantastic, with sweeping landscape shots. The soundtrack is terrific and moving. William and Murron's romance is very cute and sadly cut short. The Scottish revolution is very exciting and satisfying to watch unfold. The battles are epic. The action scenes are brutally gory, but still stylistic and fast-paced enough to stomach. Despite this brutal violence, William is still very likable and earnest. It may be historical fiction, but it's VERY GOOD historical fiction and it kept me on my toes the entire runtime.
