Eccentric 20-year-old Doris informs her sweetheart, Jack, that she cannot move forward in their relationship. She feels she must first locate her estranged father. So Jack begins to search for the long-lost man. Jack wants to wed his love and have her cease her paternal fixation. Working in his tollbooth one night, Jack collects a fare from an old man who just might be Doris's father.
