Movie Info

One of Disney's most beloved and enduringly popular animated features comes to vivid life thanks to director John Hughes, animatronics from Jim Henson's Creature Workshop and some computer generated graphics. This new version is set in contemporary London and begins as frustrated computer game designer Roger (Jeff Daniels) hops on his bike and takes his dalmatian Pongo for a run to the park. There Pongo sees the glorious lady dalmatian Perdy and falls instantly in love. When her owner Anita (Joely Richardson), a fashion designer at the house of deVil -- Cruella deVil (marvelously played by Glenn Close) that is -- mounts her own bike and rides away, Pongo sets off in hot pursuit leading poor Roger on a riotous, hair-raising chase that leaves him floundering in a duck pond with a ruined bicycle. When Perdy turns around and begins chasing Pongo, a similar fate awaits Anita. Thus begins a brief romance that culminates in marriage. Soon afterward, Anita and Perdy are pregnant. While at work one day, the wild-haired, tightly gowned, and always outrageous Cruella, a bona fide fur addict, drops by Anita's desk and spies her fanciful designs for a spotted coat inspired by Purdy's coat. Enchanted, Cruella begins lusting after a coat made entirely of dalmatian puppy fur. But where will she, who had no qualms about ordering her henchmen to kill a priceless Siberia tiger in the London Zoo, ever find enough dalmatian puppies to make a coat? When she learns that Perdy has whelped 15 pups, Cruella attempts to buy them. But Anita and Roger, suspecting the worst, refuse to sell. Enraged Cruella has her two stupid henchmen Jasper and Horace kidnap the pups. They take them to an abandoned estate to join 84 other dalmatian pups. Meanwhile, a distraught Pongo and Perdy surf the doggy communications net in hopes of learning the whereabouts of their babies. Once they do, they set off on their own to save them, not realizing that after several misadventures involving the thugs, friendly farm animals and wild critters and a final confrontation with Cruella, that their family is about to grow dramatically.more

[Glenn] Close creates an iconic, comically menacing character that lingers in the memory long after the bland nonsense of the film has faded.

Audience Reviews for 101 Dalmatians

The fact is, there is one reason only to watch this completely forgettable movie that can't seem to decide if it wants to be a merely amusing pastime or a silly nonsense, and that reason is Glenn Close, who devours the scenery with a deliciously over-the-top performance.

I love the cartoon version of 101 dalmations but i still very much enjoy this movie as well! Its funny, a great cast and you just have to love all the dalmation puppies!

This is one of the most boring, dull, annoying and most unnecessary live action remakes of all time. Honestly, who wants to watch some trashy remake when they can watch the original heartwarming animated classic. There's a good Cruella performance but apart from that all I can say is. Why?
