Acting without understanding, her father summons her home where Fereshteh is then promised to a traditional man from her village. Her new home life is fraught with abuse while love is remarkably absent from the home of the newlyweds. This contrasts sharply with the life of Roya (Marila Zare'i), a friend of Fereshteh's who retains her independence by living in the city. Tahmineh Milani, who would later be imprisoned for the images in herfilms, wrote and directed this defiant picture, a revealing work about women's roles and lives in contemporary Iran. [More]

Reviews for Two Women
Two Women deals in the details of daily life in post-revolutionary Iran: In the unspoken ways that a woman's duties, her clothing, her behavior, who she speaks to, what she says, all express her servitude in a male-dominated society.
