He's even got a giant glass swan. On the surface, you'd think he had it all. But he's got problems. It's been a full three years since his last album, the triple-platinum "Theory of Sell-a-tivity", and he's afraid of becoming a has-been. With his career riding on the release of his upcoming album, he blows a crucial TV interview with hip-hop impresario Tallulah Jones (Downtown Julie Brown). As if that's not enough, his deluxe, custom-made sink-the Wentworth-keeps breaking down. Add all that together, and you've got one nervous rapper. No wonder he's got such a sensitive stomach. But all that changes when he meets Wendell Lockport (David M. Wallace), a mild-mannered Wentworth Repair Specialist. The two really hit it off, discussing everything from the finer points of sink repair, to hip-hop, to the dangers of pouring broken glass down a drain. Feeling more at ease, the uptight Wendell lets down his guard--and MC˛ makes a startling discovery. It turns out that Wendell was once Hoolie Hooligan, legendary enfant terrible of the late 70's British hip-hop scene. Hoolie's music was the reason MC˛ became a rapper in the first place-he even name-dropped Hoolie in his smash hit, "On the Scientific Tip". And now MC˛ stands face to face with his hero. Naturally, he wants to join forces and help Hoolie stage a comeback. But after supplying Hoolie with some fresh hip-hop threads and a forty-ouncer of malt liquor, MC˛ quickly realizes that Wendell didn't call himself "Hooligan" for nothing! Will Wendell return to the career he abandoned so long ago? Will MC˛ be able to straighten things out with the powerful Tallulah Jones? And will he win the love of the beautiful waitress at the Chinese restaurant? All these questions and more are answered in "The Homeboy", the debut feature from director Dave Gebroe. The film touches on many themes, including the fleeting nature of fame, the value of true friendship, and the gastro-intestinal side effects of Chinese cuisine. In addition, "The Homeboy" dares to go where no comedy has gone before, tackling urgent issues such as alternative forks, the healing powers of Epsom Salt, and how true love can make you appreciate trees. -- © 1999 Hooligan Pictures, Inc.
