Critic Reviews for Never Get Outta the Boat
...a tedious and hopelessly irrelevant endeavor that overstays its welcome by at least a full hour.
It's gritty, raw, emotional, engaging, and very effective. It's impossible to sit through this film and not be moved. A big WOW.
Audience Reviews for Never Get Outta the Boat
A gritty, raw, emotional, engaging, and very effective account of a circle of recovering drug addicts attempting -- and sometimes failing -- to stay sober at an all-male halfway house in L.A.
The title refers to a quote form a masterpiece movie from the 1970's. I am not going to give it away. This is an extremely hard-hitting drama about men living in a L.A. recovery home (halfway house) for alcohol/drug addiction. Incredible cast brings such real life to this movie. When I was 26 I moved to a recovery home for about a year. The details in this movie were so true. From my own experience I learned that one minute you're here the next minute you are back at it. Recovery is so hard in some cases and this movie brings that up front and uncomfortable. Thankfully my halfway house experience was not quite as chaotic as this movie's. I recommend this movie for those who like character driven stories that are sometimes not so easy to watch.
GRITTY, REALISTIC AND SURPRISINGLY WELL ACTED. DISTURBING AND VERY BELIEVABLY PRESENTED. UNPLEASANT, BUT YOU DO CARE ABOUT THE CHARACTERS, ENGROSSING AND VERY WELL DONE.
