Queens living on Castro and Christopher streets will lap this up, but isn’t this kind of we-are-family minstrel comedy getting kind of old?

The sequel to the blockbuster The Iron Ladies, a comedy based on the true story of a gay volleyball team which made it to the national championship, The Iron Ladies II is filled with the same cast members and depicts the early years, before the teammates shot to stardom. The Iron Ladies is the name of the team of gay men, transvestites and transsexuals who became famous in Thailand for winning the national men’s volleyball championships. However, soon after their win, the team splits in two. Nong heads one faction and creates his own team with the financial support of Kitti. Joining his team is April, May and June as well as Nhong, the gigantic gay guy who is Nong’s new buddy. Meanwhile, the original team seems to have lost its touch and suffers a series of defeats. In the national Thailand league, Nong’s team goes head to head against the original Iron Ladies team and beats them three times. Nong argues incessantly with Jung; the two former best friends are now bitter enemies, hurling insults at each other. Jung and Chai decide to make a journey to Xishung Banla in China to see Pia, the beauty queen who’s now making a career as a showgirl. It is not just a long rough trip to meet a friend. It’s also full of sweet, spicy and hilarious memories of the early years when they first met at university. Each of the members relates how they first met, got to know one another, and formed the volleyball team. In Bangkok, Nong is hurt when he finds out Kitti has appointed Nong’s archenemy and notorious homophobe, Muangman, as the team leader. Nong asks Mon to take him to Xishuang Banla in China to visit Pia. Everyone assembles there only to discover that Pia has planned to get all the former friends together again. In Xishuang Banla, the Iron Ladies are invited to a match with the local team. Old wounds are healed, and the magic of the Iron Ladies returns. The crowd goes wild. Later the team goes back to Lampang, where their story first began, in order to become the representative team for District 5…while on the other side of the net is their eternal enemy Muangman. The Iron Ladies II is a dramatic comedy for all sizes, genders, and persuasions, and for all viewers who to love to laugh until they cry. -- © Strand Releasing [More]
