God's Sandbox is well-shot and well-filmed, somewhat over-acted, and interesting primarily because it goes so crazily off the rails, both romantically and politically.

Liz decides to stay at the beach despite her daughter's objections and meets with a Bedouin storyteller. It is here that she learns of the unusual love story of Leila, a Western tourist, and Najim, the son of a Bedouin Sheik. This extraordinary love story, that took place many years before on the same exotic beach, follows the tragic decision by Najim to bring Leila into his Muslim tribe where Leila is exposed to a traumatic tradition that shatters their love story. Captivated by the love story, Rachel soon learns surprising facts about her mother's life. --© Indican Pictures [More]

Reviews for God's Sandbox
The film falls into a melodramatic and soapy love story that makes you cringe as much as the horrific scenes of the brutal circumcision.
A fairly well-made film, reasonably directed by Eran, and it is a plea for women's rights as the Middle East gradually transitions from a tradition-bound society to a modern one.
This purplishly written and amateurishly acted piece makes a mockery of Arab-Israeli relations by using them as a basis for exotic eroticism.
With his third feature, Eran proves a skilled director of actors but still has much to learn about how to shape a picture and sharpen details that will give his work more clarity and meaning.
Plays as much like a sun-baked edition of Red Shoe Diaries gone horribly wrong as the social protest item makers intended.
Eran doesn’t seem to know, or care much, whether he's making feminist agitprop or softcore porn. The two don't mix well.
