The humour certainly pushes the boundaries, as much of it comes from dark places, but, believe it or not, it's hard not to laugh when an 11-year-old massacres a room full of baddies to the tune of The Banana Splits Theme.
It admires these heroes, invests in their story and asks us to pull for them with all our might. But it also deconstructs them, pities them, and wonders aloud why any of us would form an attachment to them.
America could probably use a good laugh just about now, what with all the problems plaguing this society. But the exploitation of children even if they are actors and the special effects are occasionally awesome, is way beyond just not cool.
