The film is a sleepy dud, a polemic that, like D'Souza himself, is at once both outrageous and deeply boring.
Top CriticThe movie seems destined to irritate the president's supporters while mobilizing his detractors, even as it is doomed to win precious few converts. It's a textbook example of preaching to the choir.
No one doubts that the country faces major challenges in the next four years, but there is one safe bet: The future is unlikely to be affected by this simplistic documentary.
Viewers may do some headscratching. This can be a very strange movie.
Every anti-Obama argument D'Souza makes from the right could be made, more forcefully, from the left.
D'Souza's demented anti-Obama crusade feels personal more than political.
2016: Obama's America comes to seem like clownish alarmist speculation taking place in an echo chamber of talking heads.
D'Souza never actually shows...Obama's own words or deeds. Instead, he engages in guilt by association.
So Obama is bringing socialism to America by 2016? That would explain why Bain Capital is making bigger donations to him than to its founder Mitt Romney.
As questionable as right wing D'Souza's lack of unbiased assertions, is the seeming lack of anyone out there who can rise above being either a red state or blue state movie critic, when it comes to political documentaries in such a divided nation.
The film flutters to the ground like so much GOP convention confetti, all assertions, few facts and little substance other than the conspiratorial right wing talking points that are D'Souza's bread and butter.
Anti-Obama documentary trades objectivity for persuasion.
[This] unsubstantiated mess isn't much of a movie or a documentary.
The evidence is highly selective and varies widely in effectiveness, but D'Souza mounts his argument with a kind of calm intensity that gives it some credence-for a while, at least.
As a pressing piece of propaganda, the film could use a louder voice and edgier tone.
Part scholarship and part sensationalism, 2016: Obama's America will make Dinesh D'Souza the conservative Michael Moore.
"2016: Obama's America" is the sort of paranoid, conspiracy-theory thriller I'm always a sucker for. But it's not as entertaining when it purports to be the truth.
...an extremely well-made and well-reasoned examination of who Obama really is, told mainly through Obama himself reading from his book, Dreams From My Father, and interviews with people like Obama's half brother, George Obama, in Kenya.
The film is certainly anti-Obama but it does provide food for thought for the undecided.
