[Throws] down references to The Smiths and Sid and Nancy as if challenging lesser audience members to plead ignorance so it can scoff them out of the theater.

The director has his own flirtation issues, as he teases audiences with his unconventional hide-and-seek uncommitted lovebird chronicle, while Zooey's got to do charming when dumping her gloomy boy toy prey over a plate of pancakes.

It's odd to see a movie which contains some scenes of fantastic whimsy (and even more in the deleted scenes) also give such a brutal portrait of a relationship.
