Ron T @Ron750 Feb 13 I don’t understand the hate for this movie. Or maybe I do. I grew up in the ‘60s when classes were grouped by IQ. So I know many high IQ people. They used to be considered nerdy or eccentric. Now their personalities are pathologized. Called autistic or ADHD or Aspergers. Many movies try to make us more tolerant of many different groups. But I guess it’s still cool to hate on socially awkward people with large vocabularies. I think this is a funny farce and worth watching. The actors did a good job, and it actually does a good job of skewering modern news reporting. See more Blu B @RT43513976 Feb 5 I can't decide what the worst part is here. Bullock's terrible performance or the lame unfunny humor and how just consistently flat and boring it is. The only laugh I got was when he jumped down the mine with the hose near the end. Other than that, man the humor sucks all life out of this rom com and road movie hybrid. Aside from the humor the other major strike is the plot is so dumb and ridiculous. There's so many disasters in this it's a borderline disaster movie even. It's just stupid and unfunny. There also is hardly any romance in this as well. Cooper and Worthington are probably the best things here and are just ok at best and are weighed down by subpar dialouge and terrible material. Bullocks whole character is literally she does crosswords and is a book smart street smart idiot. And is so unfunny, awkward, and cringe. Anytime it's jsut her it's terrible and unfunny. Do not chase a guy. Be yourself and never change, regardless of what people will say as there will always be a place for you. That being said, I feel like the writing was not very good as well as the directing as we all know all the actors can do much better than what they did here. The script is scatterbrained, the direction confused, and the overall story lacks both focus and depth. It is the kind of romantic comedy that doesn’t quite know if it wants to be quirky, heartfelt, or satirical — and in the end, it fails at all three. And yet, despite the disaster surrounding her, Sandra Bullock herself remains untouchable. Say what you will about the film, but Bullock’s performance is, in its own way, admirable. She leans fully into the eccentricity of the role, committing to every line and every awkward gesture, even when the material does her no favors. Few actors could bring such energy and charisma to a character that borders on caricature. That same year, Bullock managed the nearly impossible feat of winning both an Academy Award (The Blind Side) and a Razzie (All About Steve). If anything, that contrast proves her range, resilience, and sheer star power. Unfortunately, the film around her collapses under its own missteps. The narrative is unfocused and frequently nonsensical, with characters behaving in ways that feel inconsistent and forced. Director Phil Traill never seems certain of the film’s tone, veering awkwardly from slapstick comedy to half-hearted romance to melodrama without ever landing on solid ground. For most filmmakers, a project like this would be career-ending. For Bullock and her fellow A-listers, their existing star power was the only thing that allowed them to walk away unscathed. That being said, All About Steve occupies a strange cultural space. It is, in many ways, one of those “so bad it’s good” movies — a film you might find yourself rewatching not for its quality, but for its sheer absurdity. It’s the kind of background film you put on while vacuuming or folding laundry, chuckling at how miscalculated it all is. In the end, I can’t recommend All About Steve to anyone seeking a genuinely good movie. But if you’re in the mood to laugh at something unintentionally ridiculous — and watch a world-class actress valiantly try to salvage an unsalvageable script — then it may offer a strange sort of entertainment. Final Verdict: A critical misfire in every sense, saved only by Sandra Bullock’s unwavering commitment.
